This time, with an edit, we have a title!

Hello all!
Firstly, thank you to our followers and viewers. I was so glad to meet some of our followers on Sunday (Tom especially 🙂 – and congrats on the win btw! We were cheering you loads!)

We’ve finished. That’s it! It’s…over. *sniffs*
But! Such exciting news for y’all! Here’s the scores!

1st for Skittles!
1st for Artistic Merit!
3rd in the Minimal Maze (could I also just point out that no intermediates managed this, so very happy with this success!)
3rd in the Line Following (this was, um, difficult, so also super-happy with this success!)
Jumbot also got a special mention for innovation.

However, the most exciting thing is, is that we came third in the beginner’s section overall with 245 points!!!

Also busy editing our movies 🙂 you will all get to meet our lovely characters soon, I promise!

See ya!
THE PiONEERS
PS We have photo’s also, obviously 🙂

Are we nearly there yet? Just a few more challenges to go!

Phew! Getting there…

Sadly, we didn’t make it through Round 2 of PiWars…we kind of, um,
((breaks into song and quickly hushes at weird looks from others around))
lost a wheel 😦
And although Spencer was driving, it definitely wasn’t his fault this time.

So just Skittles and Obstacle Course to go! It’s a really good atmosphere here; people are friendly and smile lots! Okay, there’s definitely high competitive feelings, but good ones.

Have taken photo’s of our friends…and am patiently waiting for my connection to speed up so I can post them for you guys.

In the meantime, another song for y’all:
To the tune of Bob the Builder – for the Obstacle Course
“Schrödingboppers
Can they do it?
Schrödingboppers,
YES THEY CAN!”

ARGH!

Issues.

Problems.

Troubles.

Difficulties.

Suffering.

Pain.

Disasters.

Et cetera.

We are having struggles with our PS3 controllers. Probably because everyone is using PS3 controllers and the robots don’t know who to choose to connect with!
Schrödingbot, let me give you a piece of advice: PICK OUR CONTROLLER!

But Tim says, we can use a wire to connect from the controller to the ‘bot, if we’d like. Which we might potentially do, but actually, things might be working. We kind of had to miss our golf slot, so going to fit into someone else’s somewhere.

Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about telling you how the other three tests have gone, I’m going to do that a bit later in our two-hour (much-needed) break.

We also have videos!
Til later!
THE PiONEERS

(Just running off to golf now! GO, GOPHER, GO!)

As promised…

I said to a lot of people that I would blog as the day goes along, so here comes the first of many? Some? Who knows!

Here’s our timetable for today, for those who know my enjoyment of organisation.
10h45 – Minimal Maze
11h00 – Line Follower
11h25 – Slightly Deranged Golf
11h40 – Straight Line Speed Test
12h40 – PiNoon Round 2 (on bye – this means, there wasn’t the right number of teams so we automatically went through to Round 2. We get no points for the missed round…but we still get to compete!)
14h00 – PiNoon Round 3 (if we get through Round 2)
16h15 – Obstacle Course
16h30 – Skittles
16h50 – PiNoon Quarter Final (if we get through Round 3)
16h55 – PiNoon Semi Final 1 (if we get through Quarter Finals)
17h05 – PiNoon Final (if we succeed in the finals)

Between 12h30 and 14h30 we can go to get judged on technical merit, artistic style and funniest robot.

On a side note, last night C and I came up with songs for each challenge.

I’ll give you the Maze one because…because we’re getting ready to go for it!
To the tune of Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire
“Chestnut racing through the minimal maze,
Try not to crash through all the walls…
Mighty Meerkat, there’s only one way
To stand strong and ta-a-a-all.”

😀 Til later!

Last Minute Necessities and Late Night Nerves!

Interesting day today!

We had a good car trip down. Wait, no. Up. Cambridge is up from us.

Anyway! We saw the school’s teams compete and some were very good! I’m probably the most worried about…hm. Well, the obstacle course looked super-challenging.

But, as Spencer just commented, he’s the most worried about ‘things working’. So things are working, so-to-speak, but it’s just the little details. I’m not sure. You know what it’s like, things just go slightly off, or wrong, or break…

Llewelyn says ‘aaaaargh!!!!!’ It’s frustrating right now. Automata or something isn’t working :/

Jacques is ‘on his best behaviour and he’s not commenting’.
Wait! “I know why it’s not working. The power to the chip isn’t connected!”

YESSSS! Sorted. Maybe.

C says, “Tape on your toes tickles…” Mmhmm. I guess she knows from experience, because there’s tape on her toes right now.

M has decided to reconsider his career in technology…! Despite electric shocks, perhaps an electrician would be less frustrating.

Excursion-wise, we have only had to make one trip to B&Q, so not doing too badly 🙂

The name tags are done, and all interesting photos are at the bottom of this post!

Til tomorrow!!!

Argh! So excited and nervous and excited and competitive and excited and tired and excited…and, did I mention excited?

Well. Til then,

THE PiONEERS bid you, goodnight!

PS Always check your cabling…
